The architectural response was to enhance the physical qualities experienced in approach and arrival to site, the gentle climb through the trees, the view up to the knoll and sky beyond and arrival on a platform outlook with expansive panorama.
Sky and tree canopy are home but anchored back to the hillside, providing shelter and ground. Inside outside living is encouraged but with the opportunity for complete closure.
The architecture takes form from the upward view of a sheltering roof suspended against the sky, a platform for living – this framed structure as an expansive deck.
The house functions mostly as an independent machine, providing on-site water harvesting, wastewater treatment, and solar power capacity. The landscape is retained, regenerated and managed as a sanctuary.
