Multi Residential completed 2006
Close to the historical Arts Factory precinct in Byron Bay the multi residential development provides an extraordinary experience of secluded luxury and serenity in the heart of Byron. The construction though familiar incorporates Asian influences both Balinese and Japanese with pavilion roofs, sunken gardens and plunge pools. Unique to the project was the exclusive and innovative use of waterless composting toilets, a successful and powerful sustainability innovation. The temple like pyramid roofs cover the outhouse toilets incorporate active ventilation systems. Access to the outhouse was envisaged as a ritual of ablution via a raised & covered timber deck with stone wash stand. The Villas of Byron was the largest multi residential urban development in Australia utilising composting toilets.
